Journal Impact Factor
First introduced by The Institute for Scientific Information® (ISI) in the 1960s, the impact factors of journals indexed by Thomson Reuters (formerly known as ISI) have been published annually in the Journal Citation Reports® since 1975.
Being a tool for quantitative ranking, evaluating, categorizing and comparing journals, the impact factor measures the frequency with which the average paper in a journal has been cited in a particular year or period. It is calculated by dividing the number of current year citations to the source items published in the journal during the previous two years (source: Thomson Reuters). For more details about the impact factor, please see http://thomsonreuters.com/products_services/science/free/essays/impact_factor/.
Thomson Reuters has recently released its 2011 Journal Citation Report and JEOS:RP achieved an impact factor of 1.019 - which is a substantial increase from the value of 0.787 in 2009.
